APIS Migration

Background and Aspects

Hosting for APIS and the IDP software components (principally the PapyrologicalNavigator and SoSOL) is to be consolidated at NYU under agreements worked out between the participating projects, institutions and funding agencies. The details and implications for DDBDP and HGV are described elsewhere in this wiki. For APIS, various tooling and format changes are also entailed. The old web interface will be abandoned, with the PN becoming the sole and primary dissemination venue for APIS content. Moreover, the native format of APIS records will be migrated from MARC to EpiDoc in a manner conformant to the TEI P5 standards worked out for DDBDP and HGV under the rubric of IDP (mutatis mutandis). APIS records will be edited via the SoSOL application or (in the case of participating institutions who have their own systems for record creation) by batch upload and automated conversion of MARC records. These changes were decided during the last meeting of the APIS Steering Committee and corresponding budget changes have been approved by the National Endowment for the Humanities in the context of the current APIS grant.
